Tips for Cutting Down on Unnecessary Expenses

Are you struggling to pay your bills, or can't seem to save any money? Wouldn't you like to be able to live your life without having to think about your unpaid bills, whether you have enough food in the fridge to eat, your credit card being declined when you make a purchase, or whether you can go out on a Friday night with your friends and not worry about how much money you have on you to pay for your dinner and drinks?

More importantly, wouldn't you want to know that you can pay your rent or mortgage every month without the stress of money worries, and being able to save money 'every time' you get paid?

I have put together the following tips on how to cut down on unnecessary expenses, by asking you several questions:

1. How many cars do you have? Do you really need more than one car?
2. Do you really have to go out and party with your friends on Friday, and Saturday night?
3. Do you really need to get your hair done every week?
4. Do you really need to get your nails done every week?
5. After seeing that blouse in the store window, did you really need to buy another one?
6. You just bought a pair of shoes last week; did you really need to buy another pair?
7. How many credit cards do you have? Do you really need more than one?
8. You've been putting three teaspoons of sugar in your coffee for as long as you can remember; do you really need three teaspoons?
9. You went grocery shopping on Tuesday; did you really have to go grocery shopping again on Thursday?
10. You have more than one mobile phone; do you really need all of them?
11. You are late again to pick up your child from the nursery - incurring late fees again; do you have to be late most of the times?
12. You told your child you cannot afford to get them another toy; did you really have to take him or her to the toy store while you were at the mall today?
13. Do you really need to have those clothes dry cleaned?
14. Do you really need to have your car washed every week?

These questions might seem irritating to you, but clearly the list can go on and on. It is only up to you what you do with the answers that will make your situation less irritating. The answers to most things we need to change are right in front of us but somehow we don't see them, or we ignore them. We all live beyond our means from time to time, but when your weekly, monthly and/or yearly expenses far outweigh your income then you should take a look at what it is you 'really need' versus what it is 'you want'.

All the best with cutting down on your expenses!
